Dr. Tarini Mehta is a Professor, Advocate and ESG consultant with global expertise in environmental, international, and contract laws. She has held senior academic roles at O.P. Jindal Global University, as well as advised and worked with institutions such as the UK Focal Point for the EU Fundamental Rights Agency, Normandy Chair for Peace, and the International Bar Association.

BACKGROUND

Education
She holds a Doctorate in International Environmental Law from Pace University (US), an LLM from the University of Cambridge (UK), LLB from the University of Warwick (UK), and a BA in Philosophy (Hons.) from the University of Delhi. Her specialized certification in Sustainability and Climate Risk from the Global Association of Risk Professionals, as well as on Sustainable Finance from Deloitte Singapore, and ESG Risks and Opportunities from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, further reinforce her leadership in sustainability and compliance initiatives.
EXPERIENCE
With a strong background in policy and legislative work, Dr. Mehta has advised on issues ranging from environmental protection and ESG implementation to social welfare, and has held research affiliations with institutions such as the UK Focal Point for the EU Fundamental Rights Agency, Normandy Chair for Peace, Global Centre for Environmental Legal Studies, Pace University, and the University of Warwick Centre for Rights, Equality and Diversity. She currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Global ESG Leadership Organisation, London, and is a regular speaker at international conferences and academic forums.

    • M.C. Mehta v. Union of India (1985) – Oleum Gas Leak Case: This landmark case led the Supreme Court to establish strict guidelines on the safety of hazardous industries, compelling the closure of unsafe factories and setting up environmental safety measures.
    • M.C. Mehta v. Union of India (1996) – Ganga Pollution Case: Advocate Mehta’s petition resulted in stringent regulations to control industrial effluents, particularly tannery waste, from polluting the Ganga River.
    • M.C. Mehta v. State of Tamil Nadu (1997) – Tannery Pollution Case: This case led to the closure of several polluting tanneries and set the stage for policies around better effluent management in India.

    • S. Jagannathan v. Union of India (1997) – Prawn Farming Regulation Case: The Court imposed restrictions on commercial aquaculture in coastal areas to prevent ecological damage, particularly from unregulated shrimp farming.

Surangana Basu is a dynamic and accomplished legal professional with over 15 years of progressive experience across corporate, compliance, and real estate law. With an academic foundation built on a Master of Business Laws from NLSIU Bangalore and a B.A. LL.B from the University of Calcutta, she has also cleared the Executive level of the Company Secretary (CS) course. Ms. Basu has held senior legal roles across prominent organizations such as Mirus Global Real Estate, MasTec Quadgen Wireless LLP, Aakash Educational Services Limited, and Coax Assets Management. Her responsibilities have spanned complex contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, corporate legal advisory, litigation management, and policy drafting.
Her extensive experience includes drafting and reviewing a wide range of commercial and real estate agreements such as NDAs, master service agreements, subcontracting agreements, lease and license deeds, and property conveyance instruments. She is proficient in corporate due diligence, managing statutory obligations, and interfacing with government authorities for registrations and compliance. Ms. Basu is also adept in conducting property title verification and providing due diligence reports for real estate transactions. She has also served as a liaison with international legal teams for cross-border compliance. Her litigation experience covers consumer disputes as well as commercial matters across multiple jurisdictions. A certified professional in DRA Training from IIBF, she is also adept at handling cases under the SARFAESI Act and has contributed to the development and implementation of company-wide legal compliance frameworks. Ms. Basu brings a well-rounded, multi-jurisdictional legal perspective and a collaborative approach to every engagement, thereby ensuring alignment of legal strategies with business goals.

Divita Vashisht holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Jindal Global Law School and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University of Delhi. She has litigation experience in environmental law, property law and consumer and medical negligence matters, having handled matters before the National Green Tribunal, High Court of Delhi, and district courts across Delhi NCR. Her areas of expertise include Environmental Law, ESG Compliance and Civil/Commercial Disputes. Her experience has equipped her to address diverse strata of legal challenges under these domains.
